The Green Prescription: Unveiling the Science Behind Whole Food Plant-Based Diets, Episode 1

Updated: 5 days ago

Some of the latest research on whole food plant-based (WFPB) diets highlights significant health benefits, particularly in the areas of heart disease, cancer prevention, and metabolic health.

A comprehensive review published in 2024 gathered data from 20 years of research, revealing that WFPB diets are effective in lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and improving overall metabolic health. The review looked at hundreds of thousands of participants and found that vegetarians and vegans had better lipid profiles, lower blood pressure, and less inflammation compared to those who consumed animal products. This lifestyle was especially beneficial in preventing gastrointestinal and prostate cancers (Forks Over Knives) (ScienceDaily).

Another recent article highlights that these diets also promote healthy weight management, reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, and improve digestion through their high fiber content. They also seem to support longevity, with populations following predominantly plant-based diets showing higher life expectancy (Forks Over Knives).

You will note that none of these articles discusses Renal Disease – but yet WFPD healed me.  Food IS medicine.

For more details, you can explore these findings in sources such as Forks Over Knives and ScienceDaily, which offer comprehensive summaries of the latest research.
